Watch our first community day for a glimpse of what to expect!
We need musicians! We are offering this opportunity to all instruments in the orchestra and we expect places to be taken up quickly (especially in winds, brass and percussion). Places are offered on a first come first serve basis.
The day offers a chance to play with a full orchestra if you haven't before, or for a while, meet and rehearse with other local musicians.
All ages and backgrounds are welcome, but we strongly recommend ABRSM Grade 5 and above, (or with similiar experience without the equivalent grading) for full day participants. For the part-day experience, we will be rehearsing excerpts from How to Train Your Dragon and are suited for ABRSM Grade 1-4 players who want to have a go at playing in a full-sized orchestra. Standard parts of approximate Grade 3-4 players can be chosen or a simplified arranged part for Grade 1-2 players.
A free light lunch buffet and refreshments will be provided for full day participants.
We will also be inviting an audience to join us for a free final performance at 4:15pm, so invite family and friends to experience the sound!
The day is free to attend for all players and audience members, however we welcome any donations for the running of the day. Donation buckets will be placed at the end of the concert.
For full-day participants, Sheffield Youth Orchestra have Licenced Chaperones on hand throughout the day and Council Members have undergone Safeguarding Training and have enhanced DBS Certificates to ensure that every person is safe when in our care.
For part-day participants who are under 18, they must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the part day (2:30-4:45). The accompanying adult can be a player of the orchestra or they can stay in the audience to watch the rehearsal and concert.
